Paticca-samuppada (Dependent Origination) Patiloma (Reverse Order)



Avijjaya tveva asesa viraga-nirodha, sankhara-nirodho;
With the entire cessation of this ignorance (Avijja), volitional activities (sankhara) cease.

sankhara-nirodha vinnana-nirodho;
With the cessation of volitional activities (sankhara), re-linking consciousness (vinnana) ceases.

vinnana-nirodha nama-rupa-nirodho;
With the cessation of re-linking consciousness (vinnana), mind and matter (nama-rupa) cease.

nama-rupa-nirodha salayatana-nirodho;
With the cessation of mind and matter (nama-rupa), the six-fold sense base (salayatana) ceases.

salayatana-nirodha phassa-nirodho;
With the cessation of the six-fold sense base (salayatana), contact (phassa) ceases.

phassa-nirodha vedana-nirodho;
With the cessation of contact (phassa), feeling (vedana) ceases.

vedana-nirodha tanha-nirodho;
With the cessation of feeling (vedana), craving (tanha) ceases.

tanha-nirodha upadana-nirodho;
With the cessation of craving (tanha), grasping (upadana) ceases.

upadana-nirodha bhava-nirodho;
With the cessation of grasping (upadana), becoming (bhava) ceases.

bhava-nirodha jati-nirodho;
With the cessation of becoming (bhava), birth (jati) ceases.

jati-nirodha jara-maranam
With the cessation of birth (jati), ageing, death (jara-maranam),
soka-parideva-dukkha-domanassupayasa nirujjhanti;
sorrow(soka), lamentation (parideva), pain (dukkha), grief and despair (domanassupayasa) cease.

evametassa kevalassa dukkhakkhandhassa nirodho hoti.
Thus does the cessation of this entire aggregation of suffering result.
